Philex Mining Corporation seals leak but operations remain suspended
BAGUIO CITY, Oct 8 (PIA) — Even as the Philex Mining Corporation in Padcal, Itogon, Benguet has already stopped the sediment flow from the damaged Tailings Pond 3, operations remain suspended and the company is facing another fine and the possible suspension or cancellation of its environmental compliance certificate (ECC). Last week, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) reported to the Sangguniang Bayan of Itogon that the Philex Mines has already sealed the damaged portions of the Tailings Pond 3 that leaked sediments since August 1. But the suspension of operations remain, according to Felizardo Gacad Jr. MGB-CAR Mine Safety and Environment Division chief engineer.
